I dedicate this post to the 73th independence day of Indonesia and the paskibraka.

I got an assignment from my school to take pictures of the Indonesia's independence ceremony in my town hall. My task is to take the pictures of the Paskibraka and the Drum band of my school. This is my first assignment as photographer, its not a tremendous achievement as an amateur but every big thing start from small thing right??

Every year Indonesia celebrates it's independence day on 17 august since 1945, and we always wait for this big and important day.

People try their best to participate in this day, by simply put up out national flag in front of the house, make a lot of fun competition, and the most prestigious is by joining the annual Flag Ceremony as Paskibraka.

One of the competition "Panjat Pinang"

Paskibraka is the name of a high school students group that set up the national flag of Indonesia which divided to 3 category base on the area (city, province, and national). They have passed several selection and has gone through hard training to fulfill this patriotic mission. I tried to be one of them when i was in 10th class, but i failed in one of the test.

Back to my assignment, it started with rainy morning which postponed the ceremony from 08.30am to 09.30am. After several Agenda the paskibraka started their job by the first left step and no more coming back, it's either a big success or big fail.

First step

Keeping the coordination of movement is no easy task as a big group with more than 20 members, their leader called "komandan regu" has to coordinate his member with voice signal. their first task is to take the national flag from the mayor. First the representative must go up the stairs, take the flag, walk down backwards and with no looking down or so.

Walk down the stairs

The group then continue their job to set up the flag. In short flag raiser divided in to 2 groups, one that will raise the flag and one that give the flag. After receiving the flag, the raiser team will put the flag up the flagpole and followed by the national anthem of Indonesia which is "Indonesia Raya". This team has to make sure that the flag comes on the top exactly when the music is finished, not early and not late.

Raising the Flag

later on they then march back to their original spot after giving some report to the mayor that they have finished their job. And finally, they manage to do their job perfectly which give them big amount of applause from the viewer and attendance, by then i also manage to took several great shot from the venue which made me happy too.
